ABOUT US

Friends of Jamaica Non-Profit Tennis Academy & Enrichment Centre was born from one man's dream to create positive opportunities for young people living in socially and economically challenged communities throughout Jamaica.

Founder Delroy Allen was born and raised in Mount Zion, Rose Hall, Montego Bay, Jamaica. His journey began as a young ball boy at the world-renowned Half Moon Resort under the mentorship of the late Richard Russell, where he was first introduced to the game of tennis. At an early age, Delroy witnessed firsthand how tennis could open doors, create opportunities, and transform lives.

As a child, he was inspired by the kindness and generosity of others who helped him along the way. His childhood friend, Bernard "Pele" Nelson, loaned him a pair of tennis shoes, and a visiting guest gifted him a used tennis racket. Those simple acts of kindness helped launch a remarkable journey that would eventually lead Delroy to become one of Jamaica's top-ranked tennis players, a touring professional, certified tennis professional, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and youth mentor.

Throughout his life and career, Delroy never forgot where he came from or the opportunities that tennis provided him. He believed that young people from underserved communities deserved the same chance to learn, grow, and pursue their dreams regardless of their social or economic circumstances.

Driven by that belief, he founded Friends of Jamaica Non-Profit Tennis Academy & Enrichment Centre to provide children with access to free tennis instruction, academic tutoring, mentorship, transportation, meals, equipment, leadership development, and life-skills training.

Since its inception, the organization has introduced hundreds of children to the game of tennis while helping them develop important values that extend far beyond the court, including integrity, resilience, leadership, teamwork, discipline, respect, and excellence. Programs are designed to meet children at their individual age and skill levels, while after-school tutoring and educational support help students achieve success in the classroom as well.

A key part of Delroy's vision is creating greater opportunities for girls in tennis. Growing up as a ball boy at Half Moon Resort, he never saw female ball kids participating in the sport. Even today, women remain underrepresented in Jamaican tennis as players, coaches, and tennis professionals. Through the Academy, Delroy is committed to helping bridge that gap by actively encouraging girls to participate in tennis and providing equal access to coaching, mentorship, scholarships, and leadership opportunities.

Delroy's vision extends far beyond developing better tennis players. His goal is to develop future leaders, college graduates, teachers, entrepreneurs, coaches, doctors, lawyers, and community builders who will positively impact Jamaica and the world.

What began as a small community initiative has grown into a movement dedicated to transforming lives through education, mentorship, and tennis. Through strong community partnerships and an unwavering commitment to youth development, Friends of Jamaica Non-Profit Tennis Academy & Enrichment Centre continues to create pathways to success for young people throughout Montego Bay and beyond.

Our Mission

At Friends of Jamaica Non-Profit Tennis Academy & Enrichment Centre, our mission is to empower socially and economically challenged youth in Jamaica by using tennis as a vehicle for education, personal development, leadership, and opportunity.

As highlighted in the Jamaica Gleaner article, "Transforming Inner-City Youths in Montego Bay with Tennis" (May 30, 2026), our organization is dedicated to creating positive change in some of Jamaica's most underserved communities by providing children with access to opportunities that can transform their lives both on and off the court.

We provide free tennis instruction, academic tutoring, mentorship, transportation, meals, equipment, educational support, and life-skills training to help young people build confidence, discipline, resilience, teamwork, leadership, integrity, and a strong work ethic. Through our programs, we create pathways to higher education, college scholarships, professional careers, teaching opportunities, community leadership, and lifelong success.

Serving communities throughout Montego Bay, including Mount Zion, Flanker, Norwood, Glendevon, Salt Spring, and Bottom Pen, our programs provide a safe and supportive environment where children can learn, grow, and reach their full potential regardless of their social or economic circumstances.

Our programs currently serve more than 60 children each week. Due to growing community interest, expanding partnerships, and increasing enrollment, we project serving more than 100 children per week within the next two weeks, significantly increasing our impact throughout the communities we serve.

Our organization is committed to transparency, accountability, and measurable impact. We regularly share program updates, student success stories, community achievements, event information, photographs, and reports so that donors, volunteers, sponsors, parents, and community members can clearly see the results of their support and involvement.

We encourage individuals, businesses, foundations, and community partners to become active participants in our mission through donations, volunteering, sponsorships, mentoring, fundraising, and advocacy. Every contribution helps provide educational opportunities, tennis development, nutritious meals, transportation, academic support, and life-changing experiences for the children we serve.

Friends of Jamaica Non-Profit Tennis Academy & Enrichment Centre is a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization committed to strengthening communities, developing future leaders, and transforming lives through education, mentorship, and tennis.

Our values

At Friends of Jamaica Non-Profit Tennis Academy & Enrichment Centre, we recognize that success in tennis and in life requires more than physical ability. The psychological, emotional, and character-building aspects of development are equally important. While we strive for excellence, we never lose sight of the fact that tennis is a game that should be enjoyable, inspiring, and rewarding for every child.

Our culture is built upon five core values that guide our students, coaches, volunteers, and community partners:

Excellence

We encourage every child to pursue their highest potential in academics, athletics, personal development, and community involvement.

Leadership

We teach young people to lead by example, make responsible decisions, and positively influence others through their actions and character.

Integrity

We promote honesty, accountability, respect, sportsmanship, and ethical behavior both on and off the court.

Teamwork

We foster cooperation, mutual respect, communication, and support, recognizing that success is often achieved through collective effort.

Resilience

We help young people develop perseverance, confidence, determination, and the ability to overcome challenges while continuing to grow and improve.

By embracing these values, we prepare our students not only for success in tennis but also for success in school, careers, family life, and community leadership.
